Tokyo Game Show cancels its final day as a typhoon closes in

Tokyo Game Show’s organisers announced on September 19 that Monday September 21 — the fifth and final day of the show at Makuhari Messe — is cancelled outright as Typhoon No. 25 approaches Japan. Sunday September 20 was kept on the schedule. [1]

What the notice actually says

For Sunday, the organisers said the event would take place as scheduled, while warning that they might still need to change or cancel particular facilities or activities on safety grounds, and that heavy rain and strong winds were forecast for the day. Because the day was going ahead, no refunds are being issued for Sunday tickets. [1]

Monday is a different matter. The notice states that wind and rain were expected to intensify in the afternoon, raising concerns about disruption to public transport, and that the event was cancelled for the entire day — the organisers citing the safety of attendees, exhibitors and staff, and making sure everyone could get home. Refunds will be issued for Monday tickets, with each buyer directed to the vendor they bought from for the procedure. [1]

Monday is a national holiday in Japan, which ordinarily makes it one of the show’s busiest public days. Tokyo Game Show 2026 was also the first edition to run to five days rather than four. [3]

The Monday stage programme moves online

A second notice, published on September 20, confirms that the official programme scheduled for Monday will be streamed rather than dropped. Two sessions are listed, Red Bull Revenge and the closing stage, both running 10:30 to 13:10 Japan time. The organisers say they will also carry announcements and streams from some exhibiting companies, and that the page will be updated through Monday as more is confirmed. [2]

No sim racing exhibitor appears on that list as it stands. Anyone hoping to catch something specific should watch the official channels rather than assume it will be carried.

Where that leaves the sim racing stands

Three of the announcements we covered this week came out of this show. MOZA Racing used it for the first public showcase of its PlayStation-licensed hardware, Fanatec announced its ClubSport F1 system ahead of a Tokyo Game Show debut, and HORI put its first direct drive wheel on its stand there.

MOZA’s own Tokyo Game Show page lists Hall 11, Booth 11-E02, and at the time of writing still advertises the show as running September 17 to 21 and as “five days at Makuhari Messe”, with no mention of the cancellation. [4]

No sim racing exhibitor has said publicly what the lost day cost it, and the organisers have said nothing about make-up dates, extended Sunday hours, or compensation for exhibitors. None of that should be read into the cancellation notice, which addresses attendees and tickets only.
