A full week to decide whether it belongs on your rig

Project Motor Racing’s PS5 trial is now running, giving console players a longer opportunity to try the game before buying. Access ends on November 1 at 23:59 UTC. It is a temporary trial, so downloading it during the promotion does not give you a permanent free copy.

The publisher says the trial includes the base game’s content and modes, with paid DLC excluded. Its FAQ also says PlayStation Plus is not needed, including for online play during the trial. Progress, settings and records carry forward if you purchase the full game. Official source.

What to try beyond a quick race

The announcement highlights Career, custom Race Weekend sessions and online racing. Career introduces team finances and sponsors, while Race Weekend lets you arrange practice, qualifying and races, including multiclass running. Ranked Racing, Factory Driver Challenges and custom lobbies give online players different ways to sample the competition. Official source.

Our suggestion is to split the week between learning one car and trying the modes you would actually use. A clean offline session helps establish your braking references; a busier grid then shows whether you enjoy managing traffic. If you mostly race with friends, spend part of the trial checking the lobby experience together rather than judging the whole game from solo laps.

Returning players will find recent changes

The September version 2.3 update added the Lamborghini Temerario and a Track Day class to the base game. Its notes also cover GT3 and GT4 tyre and aerodynamic changes, console UDP telemetry, multiclass Career mods and improvements to ModHub discovery. The update includes lighting and tone-mapping revisions as well. Official source.

That makes this a useful time to reassess the game if your only experience was an earlier build. Handling or presentation from an old video may not describe the version available in this trial. The release notes establish what the developer changed; they do not establish how those changes will feel on every wheel and display.

Wheel users should check the October hotfix

Version 2.3.0.1, released October 5, addressed harsh Logitech TRUEFORCE jolts at kerbs and surface transitions. The same notes include gravel-stone audio changes, a Track Day custom-lobby fix and online stability work. Install the current game update before drawing conclusions from wheel behaviour. For a useful comparison, start with a familiar circuit and save your initial wheel settings. Change one setting at a time, then repeat several laps under similar conditions. Check pedal calibration and steering rotation before chasing a force-feedback preset: an input problem can make even a familiar car feel wrong.

How to get started

Find Project Motor Racing in the PlayStation Store on PS5 and select the trial download. Check the displayed entitlement before installing, especially if several editions appear. Leave time for the download and first setup rather than waiting until the final evening.

Before the trial ends, ask whether the cars you enjoyed are in the base game, whether the racing modes fit your routine, and whether performance is comfortable on your setup. Keep the separate DLC decision separate from your judgement of the trial. Related: our World Endurance Pack announcement coverage.
