The Simucube ActivePedal had become one of my favourite rig upgrades, but its price made it hard to recommend to everyone. MOZA’s mBooster offered a less expensive way to try active pedal technology. After testing it, I found its strongest argument was as a brake: the feel was convincing, and changing its response in software was genuinely useful.
My verdict at a glance
Best suited to: Drivers who want an adjustable active brake and can accept some refinement compromises to spend less than the premium alternative discussed in my original review.
What stood out: Strong, consistent brake feel and the ease of switching between softer, longer travel and a firmer, shorter response.
What to consider: Mild haptic effects, audible fan noise, awkward mounting on my rig and a less convincing feel as a throttle or clutch.
What the original price comparison meant
My March 2025 review quoted US$799 for one mBooster before shipping, taxes and import fees. The bundle with a CRP2 throttle, baseplate and extension plate was US$999. Those were the prices behind my value assessment at the time.
I compared that with a Simucube ActivePedal Pro at just over US$1,700 before its required Link Hub. The gap was substantial, even though the MOZA was still an expensive pedal compared with a conventional set.
Use current regional prices when making that comparison now. The attraction I saw was getting much of what I enjoyed about an active brake for considerably less money, rather than expecting both products to feel identical.
Solid construction, with awkward mounting
The mBooster felt well built during my test, with a largely metal construction and no build problems that spoiled my time with it. The long, heavy unit has a distinctive casing that pivots slightly with pedal movement. I was less enthusiastic about its appearance than its function.
Mounting was a bigger concern. The attachment holes were at the very front and rear, which made them difficult to align with the pedal plates on my ASR Pro. Other pedal sets had been much easier to fit to that rig.
MOZA’s extension plate accommodates the mBooster alongside the CRP2 pedals. I would check the complete mounting arrangement before buying, including how the unit’s length fits your pedal deck. Direct mounting should not be assumed to work just because your rig uses aluminum profile.
The footplate was narrower than I preferred, even though I liked its slight curve. I could adjust its angle, but the unit I tested did not offer the pedal-face height adjustment I had on my Simucube. I also did not have an obvious way to swap in a wider plate.
Those physical details mattered to me. Software flexibility cannot compensate for a pedal that is awkward to position or a footplate that does not suit how you drive.
Connections and Pit House setup
The mBooster connected directly to my PC over USB, with its own power supply. A MOZA wheelbase was not required for that connection. The CRP2 throttle and clutch connected to the pedal unit through the supplied cables.
The ports sat on the sides of the base. I would have preferred a rear arrangement for a cleaner appearance, although I managed tidy cable routing beneath my pedal plate.
Firmware updates went smoothly in the beta version of Pit House I used for this review. I also encountered a CRP2 throttle recognition issue during that period; it was separate from the mBooster’s own operation.
Pit House let me change the response curve, friction, damping, resting position and feedback effects. The presets gave me useful starting points, from softer sports-car settings to a much firmer formula-style brake.
The most valuable part was being able to change the feel without replacing springs or elastomers. I could choose a response for the car I was driving, then refine it if I wanted. I did not feel the need to rebuild every preset from scratch.
Where the mBooster impressed me: braking
As a brake, the mBooster gave me a strong, precise and consistent response. I felt confident applying and releasing pressure, and it delivered the core experience I wanted from an active pedal.
Moving between a firm, short-travel setup and a softer, longer response made a real difference to immersion. That flexibility was already a favourite feature of my Simucube pedals, and the MOZA delivered a useful version of it.
The Simucube still felt a little smoother and more accurate to me. The difference was noticeable because I was familiar with that pedal, but it did not stop the mBooster from being enjoyable to brake with.
I would not treat an active pedal as a promise of faster laps. My case for it was the ability to tailor brake feel and get useful cues while driving. Whether that is worth the price depends on how much you value those changes.
Haptics and noise were the main compromises
The mBooster offered ABS, traction-control and other telemetry-driven effects. In my original test, the effects felt milder than I wanted, particularly ABS vibration. Even with the settings turned up, they did not have the strength and clarity I liked from my Simucube.
I could feel the feedback, but it sometimes reminded me more of a small haptic motor attached behind a pedal than the richer response I expected. That distinction matters if feedback effects are your main reason for buying an active pedal.
Tire lock-up feedback was useful. Its progressive build-up helped me judge the approach to a lock-up, although the available effects depended on the sim and settings.
The fan was also clearly audible while I sat in the rig, even above my PC fans. Operation brought additional noise and vibration. Game audio made it less noticeable, but I would not describe the unit I tested as silent.
These observations describe my review hardware and software in March 2025. I have not repeated the comparison with every later firmware version, so I cannot say whether subsequent changes have resolved those points.
Why I would start with one active pedal
I was less convinced when using the mBooster as a throttle. The movement felt grainy and awkwardly non-linear despite adjustment, rather than giving me the smooth response I wanted.
My Simucube was better in that role, although I could still feel some graininess there too. Having used two active pedals myself did not make me think everyone needed to buy two.
The mBooster worked as a clutch, but the feel did not quite convince me either. I do not drive manual cars regularly enough to present that as an exhaustive clutch assessment.
For most people considering this hardware, I would start with the mBooster as a brake and keep a passive throttle and clutch. That is where I felt the active pedal delivered the clearest benefit for the money.
My final verdict
The mBooster made an appealing case for active braking at its original price. It gave me strong brake feel and the adjustment flexibility that made active pedals such a worthwhile addition to my own rig.
Simucube remained my personal preference for refinement and haptic clarity. The mounting arrangement, footplate, fan noise and milder feedback were all points I would want to know about before choosing the MOZA.
For many drivers, though, I did not think the performance difference justified the much larger cost discussed in the review. A single mBooster brake paired with a conventional throttle was a convincing way to enter this category.
I would choose it for the adjustable braking experience first. If quiet operation, physical adjustment or the strongest haptic effects matter most to you, give those compromises proper weight alongside the price.
