A wheelbase extension is a simple piece of hardware, but it can solve an awkward problem: getting the screen close enough and low enough without the wheelbase housing being in the way. The G1’s narrow shaft gave me more flexibility on both my main rig and my secondary setup. Its value came from the position it made possible, rather than adding an electronic feature to the wheelbase.
My verdict at a glance
Best suited to: A rig where the wheelbase housing or a bulky screen bezel prevents the display sitting where you want it.
What stood out: A slim shaft, straightforward installation and a useful improvement to the cockpit view on both of my setups.
What to consider: Exact mounting compatibility, the space needed for the extension and whether the result justifies the price on your particular rig.
The two setups I used

I tested the longer 123 mm version on my main rig with a Simucube 2 Ultimate and on my secondary rig with a Simucube 2 Pro.
The main setup used triple displays. The secondary rig had a single 43-inch 4K TV, with a larger protrusion around its lower bezel than a typical computer monitor.
That TV was the more obvious problem to solve. The long, narrow hub created enough clearance to position the screen more effectively around the steering axle.
These are observations from those two installations. They are not a test of every wheelbase or a guarantee that the same extension length will be right for another cockpit.
What the extension changes

The G1 moves the wheel and quick release forward relative to the wheelbase. That can let the base sit behind the display while the narrow shaft passes beneath the bottom edge.
A conventional extension can also move a wheel forward. What interested me here was the slim 20 mm shaft, which gave me more freedom around the lower edge of the screens.
After moving the displays, I recalculated the in-game field of view using the new viewing distance. On my secondary setup, the screen was approximately 22–23 inches from my eyes; the main rig was around 25 inches.
The hub itself does not change the game’s FOV setting. It enables a different physical arrangement, and that arrangement needs to be reflected in the sim’s display setup.
For me, lowering the screen relative to the steering wheel improved the alignment of the in-game dashboard and the overall cockpit view. I am describing a more convincing view, not a measured lap-time gain.
Design and fitting it to Simucube

The original range offered 70 mm and 123 mm lengths in raw aluminium or black. The hubs used an aluminium construction with three attachment arms at each end.
Those arms were offset. That small detail made it easier to reach the fasteners with a long tool during installation.
On my Simucube bases, I removed the front quick-release cap, attached the hub using the supplied hardware and fitted the cap at the other end. The process took only a few minutes.
The original review discussed both the 70 mm mounting pattern and Simucube fitment. Buyers still need to check the complete connection on their own base and wheel, including any electrical passthrough requirements.
The current range also includes a separate G1-SM listing. Choose the version and hardware for your installation rather than treating the original review as a universal compatibility list.
The difference in use

The secondary setup benefited particularly strongly. Its TV had made it difficult to achieve the screen position I wanted, and the hub gave me the clearance to improve that arrangement.
On the triple-screen rig, moving the wheelbase behind the monitors was useful too. The G1’s slim design allowed more freedom around the axle and lower display edges.
It also made routing the steering-wheel cables easier. I had more space to keep them from contacting the monitors or my dashboard display as the wheel moved.
Most of my driving was in iRacing and Assetto Corsa Competizione. During the review, I did not notice flex or screws working loose, including while trying high force-feedback settings on the Pro and Ultimate.
That was my experience with these installations. I did not conduct a laboratory torque or fatigue test, so I would not turn the manufacturer’s strength claims into a measured result.
Where I preferred Simcore

There are other ways to extend a wheelbase, and I compared the G1 concept with Simcore’s alternatives in the video.
Simcore’s more traditional Pro/L design continued the diameter of the stock Simucube hub. I had also received newer, tapered examples that offered more clearance around the screen.
I personally preferred Simcore’s visual design. It looked cleaner to me, covered the connection more neatly and kept the mounting hardware more concealed and flush.
The GETAIL lacked some of that refinement, but the offset arms made installation convenient and the narrow shaft did the job I needed. My preference for the appearance of another option did not cancel out the useful result.
Price and my verdict
The original video quoted €90 for the 70 mm hub and €160 for the 123 mm version, before shipping and other local costs. Those are the prices discussed in July 2024; the current finishes, range and pricing have changed.
It can seem like a substantial price for a small mechanical part. Whether it is worthwhile depends on the problem it solves in your cockpit.
For my rigs, the extra freedom helped me dial in the seating and display arrangement I wanted. The improvement was especially noticeable with the bulky lower edge of the 43-inch TV.
If your screen already sits comfortably where it belongs, you may get little from adding an extension. If the wheelbase housing is the obstacle, the G1 is a practical option to investigate.
I would start by measuring the position you want, then compare the hub lengths and mounting requirements. That keeps the decision focused on your actual setup rather than the promise of a perfect FOV for everyone.
